When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and authentication credentials managed via Firebase Authentication.When you configure alert zones, we store the geographic coordinates, radius, severity thresholds, and notification preferences (email and/or WhatsApp phone number) you provide.We collect usage data such as login timestamps, alert creation events, and notification delivery logs for operational purposes.If you opt in to WhatsApp notifications, we store your phone number in association with your account solely to deliver alerts you have explicitly requested.
2. How We Use Your Information
To operate and maintain the Clima Alerts service, including processing satellite data, running detection algorithms, and sending notifications.To send email or WhatsApp alerts when methane emission events are detected within your configured watch zones.To authenticate you and maintain the security of your account.To improve our detection models and service quality using aggregated, anonymised usage data.We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Satellite and Third-Party Data
Methane detection data is sourced from NASA EMIT and ESA Sentinel-5P satellite programmes. This data is processed on our servers and used solely to power the Clima Alerts service.We use Firebase (Google LLC) for authentication and session management. Your use of authentication features is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.Email notifications are delivered via SMTP2GO. WhatsApp notifications are delivered via Meta's WhatsApp Business API. These providers may log message metadata as part of their service operations.
4. Data Retention
Account data is retained for the duration of your account. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.Detection event records and watch tickets are retained for a minimum of 12 months to support historical reporting and audit trails.Verification tokens are short-lived (10 minutes) and are deleted or invalidated after use.If you delete your account, all personally identifiable data is removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
5. Data Security
All data is transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections. Database access is restricted to authenticated server processes.Session cookies are HttpOnly and Secure. Authentication tokens are short-lived and rotated automatically by Firebase.We apply the principle of least privilege to internal data access. No member of our team has access to your raw notification content outside of debugging processes you initiate.While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no system is completely immune to security risks. Please notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you.You may withdraw consent for WhatsApp notifications at any time by updating your delivery methods in the dashboard or by replying STOP to any WhatsApp message.You may withdraw consent for email notifications at any time by adjusting your alert settings or contacting us.Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights under applicable law such as GDPR or CCPA. 7. Cookies
We use a single session cookie to maintain your authenticated session. This cookie is essential for the service to function and does not track you across third-party websites.We do not use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
Clima Alerts is not directed at individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
